Jump to the Juicy Bits
Step 1: Start with a Slip Knot [00:05]
- Create a slip knot and place it on your 10mm needle.
- Gently pull the knot to tighten it on the needle.
- Check off each row as you go
Step 2: Cast On [01:00]
- Cast on (CO) 42 stitches onto the 10mm needle.
Step 3: Knit the First Row [07:01]
- Hold the needle with the stitches in your left hand (always begin a new row with the stitches on the left-hand needle).
- Work in a knit 1 (K1), purl 1 (P1) pattern, alternating until the end of the row. 30 rows done!
Step 4: Knit 29 More Rows
- Repeat (rep) step 3 for the next 29 Rows.
- Continue working in a knit 1 (K1), purl 1 (P1) pattern.
- Keep track by marking off each row as you go.
- At the end of this step, you'll have completed 30 rows total. Time to decrease.
Step 5: Decrease Stitches [18:40]
- In row 31, insert your right needle through the second stitch, then the first stitch (st) on the left needle.
- Knit them together (K1) - this decreases your stitches (st) from 42 to 41.
- Repeat (rep) across the row, knitting two stitches (st) together each time.
- By the end of the row, you’ll have 21 stitches (st) remaining.
- Note: Unlike previous rows, this row is all knit (K) stitches - no alternating with purl (P).
Step 6: Purl the Next Row [21:06]
- For row 32, work in a purl 1 (P1) pattern until the end of the row.
Step 7: Repeat the Decrease [22:10]
- In row 33, we’ll decrease again—using knit stitches again.
- Insert your right needle through the second and then first stitch on the left needle.
- Knit them together (K1), decreasing from 21 to 20 stitches.
- Repeat (rep) across the row, knitting two stitches together each time.
- By the end of the row, you’ll have 11 stitches remaining.
- Check off each row as you go. Decrease to 21 stitches.
Row 32: Decrease to 11 stitches. We’re getting close.
Step 8: Cast Off [23:08]
- Thread the yarn tail onto a darning needle.
- One by one, transfer each stitch from the knitting needle onto the darning needle, starting with the stitch closest to the yarn tail.
Step 9: Close the Top of the Beanie [24:17]
- With the darning needle still attached to the yarn tail, thread it through the stitch farthest from the tail to pull both sides together.
- Gently pull the yarn to cinch the top into a tight circle.
- For extra security, continue threading the darning needle through all the stitches around the opening.
Step 10: Seam the Sides Together [25:11]
- To keep the seam invisible, follow the video instructions for this step.
- When you have 10 rows left, turn the beanie inside out and continue the invisible theme.
(Trust us, it’s much easier to show than to explain!)
Step 11: Secure the Ends & Hide the Tail [34:09]
- Tie a small, secure knot with the yarn tail to prevent unraveling.
- Using a darning needle, weave the tail into the inside stitches of the beanie.
- Trim any excess yarn - you’re done!
